From ancient Roman ruins to WWII bombings and modern-day revival, Zadar tells its story through every stone and square. We explored its layered past on a walking tour, ended our day with incredible Dalmatian cuisine, and left with a deep appreciation for this resilient coastal city.
We arrived in Zadar ready to relax. With a comfy hotel in Old Town and cocktails on the Riva, we soaked up the city’s coastal charm. Highlights included the Sea Organ’s wave-made melodies and a sunset Alfred Hitchcock called the best in the world. A soft landing after a busy travel day.
We left Pula before sunrise to hike Plitvice Lakes National Park before heading on to Zadar. From winding boardwalks and misty waterfalls to sunny skies and turquoise lakes, the park completely lived up to the hype. Even on a tight schedule, it was unforgettable. Wild, rugged Croatia at its finest.
On our way to Pula, we discovered the hilltop village of Bale—a peaceful step back in time. Pula, by contrast, stunned us with its ancient Roman amphitheater and historical landmarks. One night wasn’t enough, but our epic Airbnb next to the arena helped make the most of it.
