Lake Bled, Slovenia – Garni Hotel Berc
I have to admit, when we first started looking at the Garni Hotel Berc, it just didn’t grab me the way it did Ron. But travel is all about compromise, and I decided to let this one go. And wow, am I ever glad I did. This place turned out to be an absolute gem.
Garni Hotel Berc is family-owned and feels like a warm hug the moment you arrive. The decor leans toward European chalet style, with light wood accents and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The owners and staff could not have been more lovely, genuinely kind and helpful from the moment we checked in.
Our room was on the second floor with a large balcony overlooking the garden. It was bigger than expected, spotless, and full of thoughtful touches. (Side note – I forgot to take photos before we had a quick nap, hence the bed looking rumpled.) Downstairs, there is a charming little honor bar just below the breakfast room. We treated ourselves to a couple of bottles of wine, simply jotting down our room number and what we took. So easy.
Breakfast the next morning was a feast. Fresh breads, pastries, cakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, yogurt, cheeses, coffee, teas, and juices. It was one of the best spreads we have had in a long time.
Garni Hotel Berc’s location is another major win. It is an easy 10-minute walk to Lake Bled, which is perfect since parking near the lake is both limited and pricey. One of our favorite restaurants from the trip was also just around the corner. – Old Cellar Bled Restaurant and Wine Bar.
In short, Garni Hotel Berc was one of those wonderful surprises that make you smile every time you think back on it. We would happily return for a longer stay if the chance ever comes up.
